Volunteering 101: Your One-Stop Guide to Getting Started with Volunteering

By: Presley Batchelor

Monday, September 23, 2019

So you want to be a volunteer or find new ways to get engaged in your community? You’re in the right the right spot. IU Corps is dedicated to making volunteering easy and accessible for all. Here’s a pathway to start learning more about our community, here in Bloomington – and beyond.

It’s as easy as 1…2…3…

 1) Decide what you're passionate about.

Whether it’s animals, education, or anything in between – we can find an opportunity for you. Deciding what you’re passionate about can be tricky. Think about what motivates you, what excites you, and what you want to get out of volunteering. What makes you happiest? How do you want to impact your community?

 2) Log in to your Volunteer Central account.

Volunteer Central is a database through IU Corps that is designed to connect students to our community partners and the items that they need help with. Once connected, you’ll find opportunities that will benefit all involved.

 3) Sign up for a volunteer event!

There are more than 300 opportunities that need people just like you. Sign up and go check out a new nonprofit, event, or workshop!

There are so many ways to get involved on the IU campus, and Volunteer Central is a great place to start! Beyond Volunteer Central, you can look at community-based classes, service-centered student organizations, and various campus campaigns.
